Center for Contemporary Art and Culture

March First Thursday

March First Thursday at PNCA + North Park Blocks
Thursday, March 7, 2024 | 5-9pm

The Center for Contemporary Art & Culture at Pacific Northwest College of Art is excited to invite the public to the March First Thursday Art Walk in the North Park Blocks for exhibition receptions, live music, and refreshments!

Welcoming our neighbors from near and far, First Thursdays in the North Park Blocks are an opportunity to come together in celebration of art, joy and community. First Thursdays are a vital part of the cultural ecosystem of Portland. For decades, these monthly events have been a highlight of nightlife in the Pearl District and North Park Blocks, increasing cultural connection and retail activation downtown. With the aim of revitalizing turnout and public engagement for the First Thursday Art Walks, PNCA is accelerating dynamic collaborations with our neighbors in the North Park Blocks through expanded public programming including exhibitions, music, performances, artist-led special events and more!

Live Music with DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid + DJ Timothy Bee

DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid have spent more than twenty three years igniting dance floors with cutting edge music not limited by borders or language. They host the longest-running Bhangra and Bollywood party in the world (Andaz est. 2002), co-founded the Pacific Northwest’s first Global Bass dance party (Atlas 2003-2013) and spent years hosting two weekly radio shows (CHOR BAZAAR on XRAY.FM and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Kush on KBOO.FM.) In 2013 Anjali and The Kid initiated TROPITAAL! A Desi Latino Soundclash, which they host monthly at The Goodfoot.

Few DJs can be said to have changed the sound of their city but that is exactly what DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid have accomplished since they first introduced Portland, Oregon nightclub audiences to the many varied sounds of Global Bass at a raucous New Year’s Eve debut in 2000. They are most known for incinerating dance floors with the heavy dance floor artillery of South Asia, but the duo scour the globe for any hard-hitting music that combines local music traditions with window-rattling production.

Ash Stone (she/they) is a queer latinx visual artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her work, driven by the transformative power of play, serves as a method of healing and self-discovery. Ash’s creative practice works in tandem with community building, collaboration, and advocacy for art and education accessibility.
